I’ve waited for 8 years for my Linden tree to grow and bear flowers. Yesterday it bloomed for the first time and I picked enough blossoms to fill 8 mason jars. I can’t wait to see how it turns out as schnapps and liquor. Thanks for the recipe all these years later!

What a lovely post.

FYI to an earlier comment – linden blossoms themselves produce no essential oil, when perfumers incorporate them into a fragrance they are approximating that with chemicals or a combination of chemicals and natural essential oils. :)

Hi! I'm in Australia and so the linden trees are blossoming now. I have been harvesting for a few years but only to dry them to drink as a tea. I have wanted to make the infused vodka/liqueur all year since finding your website a year go! Did you find any noticeable difference between leaving the bracts on or off? Did you adjust quantities due to the bracts taking up volume? Regarding the steeping time of 15 days and ageing of 5-6 months - have you altered that since 2011? I've read other recipes that steep as few as 3 days and age for just as little time. Also, have you experimented with 95% ABV spirit (rectified spirit or 'Everclear' in USA)? So many questions... Many thanks! I may just try all different batches myself!

Thanks, everybody, for all the information about Lindens. Ours bloomed for the first time last year, and we have been here 20 years! Now, our neighbor's Lindens are blooming, but not ours. It has been very rainy this spring in NJ. We are interested in them because my husband is a beekeeper, and the bees love the blossoms. What a great site this is. I intend to try both the tea and the liquor. Written June 27, 2017
